The Prince(ss) and the Pea

So, a few weeks ago, hubby sprung a surprise on me (he's really good at that - I hate it) and said that he was tired of our old bed and that it hurt his shoulder at night and was too "bouncy" and we needed to get a new one. I just looked at him for a second, blinked, and said, "But I like our old bed. It's comfortable."

I might as well have been saying, "Blah, blah, blah" - because men on a mission are just THAT - on a mission - and nothing is stopping them. Before I knew it, we were at the Sleep Number store at the mall, and I found myself lying on a bed, getting educated about what "number" I was, while thousands of shoppers walked by me, snickering and pointing fingers....

So, Friday afternoon, our new bed arrived...woot! Woot!

Now, seriously? I could sleep on a floor and be happy. I have never been all that particular about my bed. When I'm tired, I hit the bed and I am OUT. For the night. Period. You could drop napalm on me and I wouldn't stir. It's awesome.

Hubby, however, sleeps like "The Princess and the Pea." Geesh. If there's a string out of place on his mattress, he can feel it and it will keep him up all night. Drives me nuts.

Anyway, Friday night, we slept. On our new bed. And I was fine with the bed. Really. The bed was great - but again, I could sleep on a rock and be fine. However.....

....my pillow. Is another story.

The salesman at the Sleep Number store (damn, he was good) convinced us we needed new pillows to go with our new bed, and we are now the proud owners of two giant blobs that the store claims are pillows, but I swear are bricks disguised in material. Because that's how it felt Friday night - like I had my head on a freakin' concrete rock all night long. It HURT!

I slept on it again last night - giving it one more shot - but again - it was a ROCK!

So - the new pillow (my pillow, at least) is history. I'm kicking it to the curb (actually, I'm going to pawn it off on one of the kids tonight - hmmm....whom needs the most punishing at the moment??!!) and I'm going back to my old pillow.

As for the bed? Hubby is still making his mind up. I'm not going to get too attached to it yet. You just never know with my hubby. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Peace.

I'm with hubby on this one, but totally envious of your ability to sleep anywhere! I can't sleep in hotels, at friends houses or anywhere but in my own bed. I'm completely spoiled by my awesome mattress.

I agree with Dual Mom, I love going on vacation, but oh those beds! That's the best thing about coming home, MY WONDERFUL BED! Good luck with yours, and by the way, the only thing more important than the bed is the pillow! Yesiree!

We went out and bought an awesome, expensive bed 5 years ago and it's comfortable as all get out, but it doesn't help me sleep. I hate those memory foam pillows, they are SO like rocks, you're right. My husband has a couple and I just don't get it.
