Survival of the Fittest

It's interesting living at the lake...

...especially in the spring.

Every day, I drive along on the lake roads and I come across another "victim" lying in the road...little baby animals that apparently didn't know that automobiles are big, bad killers and shouldn't be messed with. Baby squirrels, raccoon, possum...and here I thought spring was the time for rebirth, not death.

Yesterday, a baby bird came crashing into a window at our house...I mean, that bird hit so hard, I thought the glass was going to shatter. Scared me half to death when it hit - I seriously thought someone had thrown a rock. The bird survived...but it's going to have one hell of a concussion. Stupid bird.

I guess this is evolution at work - survival of the fittest, and all that stuff. But it's sad, really.

I really hope that by the end of the summer, these little babies will have "wisened" up and learned to not try to cross the road in front of cars. If there's any animals left by then, though. I'm beginning to wonder.

Peace.

Yeah, I hate this time of year. The lawn guys are back out and they always manage to kill some baby birds that live in the multitude of bushes around here.

I also live near water, and there are geese galore! The adults walk their babies across the street, always during a very busy time. Cars stop and wait. It's the cutiest thing ever!

If the parents are dumb, and walking them into the street, the babies don't stand a chance!
